A government order banning vehicle overloading has changed how construction materials can be transported across Tamil Nadu. The impact on transport cost is direct, significant, and completely outside our control. We are explaining it in full — with exact numbers — so you understand what changed and why.
What the Overloading Ban Actually Means
Long tipper vehicles carrying construction materials like m-sand, aggregates, and granite are now limited to their legally permitted axle load. Previously, vehicles were routinely overloaded — carrying 50 to 55 tonnes in a single trip. Under the new enforcement, the same vehicle can carry only 20 to 25 tonnes per trip. Overloaded vehicles are being stopped at checkposts and heavily fined. Transporters who overload risk losing their permit.
We want to be clear: we are not complaining about this order. Overloaded vehicles damage roads, are dangerous for drivers, and are illegal. Complying with weight limits is the right thing to do. But compliance comes at a cost — and that cost is now being passed on to every customer who buys construction materials in Tamil Nadu, regardless of which supplier they use.

Previously, getting 50 tonnes of raw granite from quarry to our Keerapakkam plant cost us one long-tipper rental. Now, the same 50 tonnes requires two vehicles — two drivers, two trips, two fuel costs, two rental charges. This increase flows directly into the cost of every tonne of sand and aggregate we produce.

Earlier we could load a long tipper lorry with 50 to 55 tonnes of raw material in one shot. This kept our transport cost per tonne very low, and we passed that savings on to you as a factory-direct price. The government has now enforced strict axle load limits — the same vehicle can now legally carry only 20 to 25 tonnes. To move the same 50 tonnes of raw granite from quarry to our Keerapakkam plant, we now need to send two vehicles instead of one. The rental doubles. The fuel doubles. The driver cost doubles. That extra cost is what you are seeing in the revised prices. We have added nothing on top of that.
